Steve Patterson
Program/Position: Mechanics Program Manager
Why I do what I do: I have been in the automotive industry most of my adult life. I started out as a mechanic and then we became known as automotive technicians. I spent years learning my profession and improving my knowledge and skills. I owned my own shop for a while, and I spent a few years teaching Automotive Technology in 2 Colleges. Now I work here in the Automotive Program, teaching people to fix cars. A lot of them are trying to learn everything they can to get a good job and start a good career. And that's why I work here. To help them all I can and to teach them what they will need to know to start in this industry. And every time one of my students starts a task they aren't familiar with, works hard, and then accomplishes something they didn't think they could do, they are so happy that they accomplished something they thought was impossible. And that's why I work here. To teach students and to help them learn and do things to build a future for themselves. And I know they will succeed. My job isn't about me, it's about the people I'm teaching. They are the real story.
